When it comes to old age, I like to use the football analogy. In 2008, I am 63 years young, and I have entered the fourth quarter of my life. Most citizen don't want to talk about the field of death...especially if it's about their own death. After I hit the 60 year old mark, I would think about my own death from time to time. But why? All of us are going to "kick the bucket" sooner or later, and we're all going to have to deal with it. So, how can I put in order for the inevitable...death? What have I done with my life? Have I thrown my life away?
One thing I do not want...is no shoulda...coulda...woulda! I want little or not regrets, and I want no fences to mend or to be on a guilt trip for whatever or for anyone, etc. Will I sweep the issues of death under the carpet and just let it happen? Or, will I choose to deal with it? I have chosen to deal with it!
Over many months, I have taken notes for this report and the field of death. I conception it would help me in dealing with it, by jotting down all of the confident things I have closed during my lifetime, and that my life has had meaning, etc. confident things in my life, that have helped others and things that have made a divergence in people's lives.

Below, is a short list, of a few of my accomplishments that have been foremost to me that I have compiled. I will add to the list as time goes by...
My integrity is not negotiable: Along with freedom, my integrity is one of the most foremost things in my life. I have never cheated and lied my way straight through life, and I don't play to start now! foremost a good life while you're on Earth is all about your escort while you're here. The reader will not see whatever in this piece about money; material things; or power, etc. None of those things matter when you're six feet under! You know the old saying, "You can't take it with you." But, I insist on taking my integrity with me to the grave after I hang up my sneakers!
Family life: For 19 years, I helped to raise two boys, who went on to graduate from high and college. Kevin in criminology and Jason in the medical field, and both of them went on to lead effective lives. I am proud of both of them.
Veteran: I served my country, during the Viet Nam era, for four years, and I received an honorable discharge.
Substance abuse: One of my best accomplishments in life, is the fact that I lived straight through the drug culture of the 1960's and 70's, and I have never taken illegal drugs of any kind. Why would I want to ruin my life? I am capable of ruining my life without the use of drugs, etc.
"Tough Love;" One of my brothers is an alcoholic, and one day he got drunk, and threatened to kill the family. This was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, and that is, to throw him in jail. It was sheer agony, to see the police put hand-cuffs on him and put him in the police car and take him away! But, in the long-term, I think it did Ricky good, and helped him to turn his life around. He's dong better today.
Honesty is the best policy: Like most American's, I've done it all...sweeping floors; washing dishes; cleaning hospital wards; janitorial work; stuffing envelopes, and most of my life, I spent working for an engineering company...but all this work is honest work! I have never been in a gang; never been in the mob; I have never hurt whatever and I have never been in jail for any reason, etc.

Quit smoking: I quit smoking in 1970, and it's one of the best things I've ever done for my health; my house and those nearby me.

Giving back; Like most American's, I've had my share of life's ups and downs. But, in the over-all picture of things, Old Glory has been good to me and my family, so we must give back. We do it with voluntary work; monetary and other donations. Giving to the less fortunate, brings great delight for the individual.

Humor: I count my blessings every day, because I've been given the gift to be able to put smiles on people's faces for over 50 years. I've been in the humor enterprise most of my life, and to put a smile on somebody's face, is so gratifying and I never get tired of it.

With that, I think a little humor is in order here, don't you? Merv Griffin was one of my favorite entertainers. I caught one of his shows back in the 1960's, and the conversation was about death and how he would cope it. He told his audience, what he wanted on his grave stone, following his death which was, "We will Not be back after this commercial message." Isn't that funny"
I don't want a stone on my grave, but I want a parking meter which reads, "Time Expired!"

Writing: Here again, I've been blessed in the short time (2 years) I've been writing seriously, in which my writing pieces have been published on over 400 websites on the Internet. There's no money complicated here, as all my articles (90+) are free content, and available to the group for free, etc. And, with these articles, I hope to make a divergence in some people's lives, as well as inspire and motivate citizen to reach their dreams and goals. My articles could be my legacy to the world...I authentically hope so.
Religious matters: I think this is a secret issue, and everybody will deal with it in their own way.
Body/parts donated: This is someone else sensitive area, in which everyone's opinion/actions are respected. I believe that the body (after death), should go for a useful purpose, and not just waste away. Therefore, I believe that my body should serve a useful purpose, by donating the parts to help others, etc. What can't be used for individuals, can be used for medical/science research. This is foremost to me, and it would give me the relieve that my body is going for an foremost use.

This task has been therapeutic for me, and as I add more confident things to my list...I feel like my life has been worthy of living in the first place. What's so tantalizing and overwhelming about this project, is the fact, that I am less afraid of death now, than I was before I first started this project! And yes, I do realize that this point will be hard for the reader to understand.

Today (2008), we hear a lot about celebration of a life! That's how I want to go out! I want to celebrate my life...and go out with dignity...with a graceful exit! And, I will be highly happy...that if...on my death bed, I can say..."you've done good...Jer...you've done good!"
